How to use Reference Planes in CATIA V5?

How to use Reference Planes in CATIA V5?
Reference Planes in CATIA V5: Reference planes play a vital role in the field of design. We need reference planes when there is a need to draw or sketch a model having the highest complexity. For example, a flower flask is sketched by the use of reference planes because of their irregular contour shapes. In this tutorial, I am going to explain how to use Reference Planes in CATIA V5.

Definition of Reference Planes:

reference plane is a plane in 3D space used as the workspace for drawing and the basis for other interactive actions. The initial reference plane is the XY plane. The reference plane may be any one of the three Cartesian planes (XY, YZ, ZX).

Explanation of Reference planes:

Normally in one plane, we can sketch one component but, by the combination of more than one planes, we can sketch a complex component in such a way that the surfaces of the object in different planes are added by means of a common point and that can be possible by the use of reference planes.
The procedure is to be adopted to sketch or model the Reference Planes in CATIA V5 and is shown below.
To generate a complex component by the use of reference planes, go to
  • Shape-Generative Shape Design-Click on ‘Plane’ option which is present in the tools section.
  • A pop-up box opens regarding the plane definition and chooses any plane(let it be XY Plane).
  • Provide the distance and no.of instances.
  • No of instances resembles the no of reference planes to be chosen to draw a complex component.

How to use Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5?

How to use Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5?
Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5: ”PAD” is a tool which is used to extrude the given component i.e a sketch is converted into a part. Similarly, MULTI-PAD is a feature which is used to extrude a set of sketches into parts or models. In this article, I am going to explain the usage of Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5 in a detailed manner. The step by step procedure is to be needed to adopt the usage of Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5 and is as follows.

Multi Pad Feature in CATIA V5-Procedure:

To use MULTI PAD Feature in CATIA V5,
  • Draw the sketches of the required dimensions.
  • Turn it(sketch section) to the Modelling section.
  • Click on PAD tool.
  • In the PAD Tool itself, there exists a Multi Pad feature which is used to extrude the multiple components at a single time.

How to use Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5?

How to use Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5?
Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5: Profiles plays a vital role in the field of design to draw any type of view. The Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5 are Rectangle, Oriented rectangle, Parallelogram etc. In this article, I am going to explain the usage of  Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5 in a detailed manner. The step by step procedure is to be needed to adopt the usage of  Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5 and is as follows.

Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5-Procedure:

The Predefined Profiles in CATIA V5 are
  • Rectangle
  • Oriented rectangle
  • Parallelogram
  • Elongated hole
  • Cylindrical elongated hole
  • Keyhole profile
  • Square
  • Centered Rectangle
  • Centered Parallelogram etc.

How to Customize Environment in CATIA V5?

Customize Environment in CATIA V5: In order to sketch a model, there is a need to know the features(Tools) present in CATIA which can be helpful to construct a geometry. Therefore we should have to customize the environment of CATIA to meet the design requirements. In this article, I am going to publish about How to Customize the Environment in CATIA V5 in an effective manner.

Customization involves changing the background color, Font Color, Font Style etc. To know how to Customize the environment in CATIA V5, a step by step procedure is required.

Customize Environment in CATIA V5-Procedure:

  • Go to Tools which is present on the top side of the title bar and click on Options.
  • A dialogue box opens and clicks the appropriate one.
  • The dialogue box consists of
    • General
    • Display
    • Compatibility
    • Parameters and Measure
    • Devices and Virtual Reality
    • Mechanical Design
    • Shape
    • Analysis and Simulation
    • Machining Simulation etc.
  • Choose Display as an option and click on Visualization. Then you can get a dialogue box where we can change the
    • Background color,
    • Selected elements
    • Selected Edges
    • Pre-selected Elements
    • Pre-selected Element line type
    • Low-intensity elements
    • Update needed
    • Handles
    • Surface boundaries etc.

How to Customize Toolbar and its Positions in CATIA V5?

Customize Toolbar and its Positions in CATIA V5: Toolbar places a vital role in any design software. With the design features in tool bars only, we can do an effective design that too in a short period of time. If any Toolbar is not Viewing in CATIA, Then there is a need to Customize Toolbar. Therefore in this article, I am going to publish about How to Customize Toolbar and its Positions in CATIA V5 in an effective manner.

The design features which are used to construct a solid geometry are present in the toolbar which is present at the right side of the screen. If any tool is not viewed, then there is a chance of taking more time for the geometry to draw. In that case, there is a need to incorporate the design feature in the toolbar.
For that, a procedure is required.

Procedure:

  • Go to the toolbar and make a right click on the white space of the toolbar.
  • Whatever the features are required to construct a model is to be checked in the dialogue box and choose the appropriate one.
  • If you had not found the required one then there is a need to Customize the toolbar.
  • To customize the toolbar, Right click on the white space of it, Then you view different elements…go down by pressing the down arrow key and say “Customize”.
  • Go to TOOLBARS and say “Restore all Contents & Restore Positions”-OK.
  • That’s it…!U had done.
  • Now all the features are shown in the toolbar which is required for modeling or sketching.

How to use Mirror Constraint in CATIA V5?

Mirror Constraint in CATIA V5: Mirror constraint is used to produce the mirror of a model or an object while doing sketching or modeling in any CAD software. This constraint increases the flexibility for the user by providing a similar object on the other end.
In this article, I am going to explain the usage of Mirror Constraint in CATIA V5 in a detailed manner. The step by step procedure is to be needed to adopt the usage of Mirror Constraint in CATIA V5 and is as follows.

Mirror Constraint in CATIA V5-Procedure:

To use the “Mirror Constraint” in CATIA V5,
  • Firstly draw a sketch in the sketcher then draw an axis.
  • Secondly, whatever the part of the body is to be Mirrored is to be selected and the Mirror option is chosen from the Menu bar.
That’s it…the same as it is part is displayed on the other side of the axis.
